of comprehensive immigration reform. yesterday the president went to nevada where the hispanic population is 20% to make his case for a bipartisan plan. >> the good news is, for the first time in many years, republicans and democrats seem ready to tackle this problem together. at this moment, it looks like there's a genuine desire to get this done soon. and that's very encouraging. but this time action must follow. we can't allow immigration reform to get bogged down in an endless debate. we've been debating this a very long time. >> the president's speech stopped short of backing a plan outlined the day before by a bipartisan gang of eight, group of senators. the group which includes republican senator marco rubio has proposed a pathway to citizenship under the condition that more is done to secure the nation's borders. senator rubio yesterday did his best to sell conservative talk radio host rush limbaugh to the idea. >> border security, we need workplace enforcement, a visa tracking system. all three of those have to happen. the language has not been drafted yet. these are just principles. i

owner. he's from the gun rights state of nevada. he has been very cautious saying that the senate should be cautious, but my understanding from talking to a number of sources is that he's speaking for himself but he's also speaking from the perspective of political reality, that there are a number of people in his caucus who would potentially really get slammed for supporting anything. so that's why he wants to take it slow. he doesn't want his people to walk the plank and suddenly not be the senate majority, lose the majority. but the other thing i think is really important to keep in mind is just how different this is. kind of taking it up to 5,000 or 10,000 feet. i cannot tell you how many times after so many of these tragedies, after one of their own gabby giffords was shot, calling up senate democratic sources saying, are you going to do anything? nope. nothing's changed. after aurora, nope, nothing's changed. n newtown changed the dialogue, the decision at the white house and here in congress by some to put this issue, again, which was very, very difficult. for ten years democrats

with fellow democrats. >> they do. you look at harry reid from nevada, it's clear he's not going to take the lead on this in the senate. he will leave that to his chief lieutenant. today we had pat leahy come out and he said quote we will pass what we can get. that doesn't mean -- that sure doesn't sound to me like he believes the president's entire package is going to get through. there are also senators democrats up for re-election in gun states like montana louisiana, south dakota. so those are real issues for the president because, of course, they want to keep control of the senate and also there are western senators who are going to be looking for some middle ground. >> see, the key words, middle ground. >> if there is any. >> gloria, thank you. >>> one of the country's oldest airlines now has a brand new look. we're going to show you how american airlines is engaged in a major makeover. >>> plus, it's not just 20s anymore. the big change that you'll be seeing very soon at some atms. of what this debate is all about. let's go to teresa, joining us from north las vegas nevada. the democrat line. caller: good morning. i wanted to call in support of the president and democrats. i am a progressive and in independent thinker. i do not think you should use the 14th amendment, unless it comes to a really economic crash. i am for raising the debt ceiling. i believe that we need to pay our bills. i have to pay my bills. if i do not pay my credit card bills, my credit rating goes down. my credit score goes down. and i pay more in interest in the future. i think it is very irresponsible of these tea party republicans to hold the country hostage. there are other issues that can be negotiated for spending and raising revenues and the debt ceiling should not be a part of it. host: ok, thank you for calling. here is the editorial cartoonist of the post. the idea of minting a single coin valued at $1 trillion. using that to increase the debt limit. a number of stories saying that basically, this is not going to happen. his is what is reclined -- this -- what ezra kline writes he point

by leaving the state and going to texas, florida, nevada, wyoming, one of the states that don't collect state taxes. there is a bigger issue here as well and i think we'll start seeing this with a lot of athletes. it's very popular to come and play for the san francisco 49ers or the los angeles lakers, but at 13.3% i think you'll see a lot more people considering florida, considering texas, considering tennessee, there is a new team going to be going up to seattle, the state of washington now in the mba. i think you'll see some of the athletes with salary caps avoiding the state because they can get a 13.8% raise by not playing here. bill: you may be dead right about that. that would be remarkable too. that goes into the busy digs of signing a contract. phil will be out playing this week and the suggestion to the statement is that he might add a little more to this. we'll see if that is the case throughout the week here. it's always good to have you on, jim gray out of california. >> appreciate it. thank you. martha: while we've been talking this morning the president and the first lady and t

actually think the president was remarkably tempered in nevada, and less partisan than usual. so i'm modestly encouraged. i don't personally believe, and i've said it over and again, that a comprehensive bill can pass. i think that it's too hard. i think that you could pass seven or eight bills that together form a comprehensive reform. my advice to the house republicans would be, start passing bills. you don't have to hang on -- >> jeb bush says that's impractical and he wrote that article last week in the "wall street journal." he says, go for the comprehensive, don't do it peace mie meal. >> look -- well, i have great respect for jeb bush, but i believe that in this city, what you end up with is 11:00 at night, in the white house, six people in secret, writing a bill they don't know anything about, dumping stuff in the bill at the last minute. it is the worst possible form of legislation. they ought to hold hearings -- first of all, let's hold hearings. let's get out in the open. >> they will be holding hearings, and they'll be introduced -- quickly, are you with marco rubio or
